Introduction

In this blog I am looking at fractions tasks, especially tasks involving decimal fractions, that might be given to primary school pupils. So the work is relatively simple, but perhaps more challenging than what one often sees in primary school textbooks or in guidance documents such as this Spine 3.7 document from NCETM.

A key idea about using relatively challenging tasks is that they can be solved in different ways and that any given way can throw light on other ways.

Some of the tasks will be intended more for us, as teachers, to give some perspective on the mathematics involved.

Quite where I am going with this, and in what order to present the tasks, I am not yet sure. It might not end up as a coherent body of work! But comments are welcome - whether about the tasks or the experience of using them!
